Oppy and Topper Inter-Area Regattas

Royal Yachting Association South East Region

OPPY and TOPPER INTER-AREA REGATTAS

Saturday October 3rd 2009

Chipstead Sailing Club, Chevening Road , Sevenoaks TN13 2SD

The RYA SE Region is running 2 separate ‘Inter Area’ Regattas at Chipstead SC on Saturday 3rd Oct one for Oppies and one for Toppers specifically for children (up to 16) who are novices with a modest amount of sailing/racing experience and who have not participated in ‘Open Meetings’ away from their home Club.

There will be 'Area' competitions for the SE Region ‘Areas’ - Weald, West Sussex, Medway, East Sussex, East Kent and North Kent. Boats - 3 Oppies and 3 Toppers - will be supplied for up to 6 Oppy sailors and 6 Topper sailors from each area. In this case each sailor will sail in 2 races. If areas wish to bring more sailors, they will be very welcome – subject to capacity constraints of the water - but they will need to bring their own boats! Please check with your area representative. Individual medals will also be awarded.

Please contact your area representative for more details who are:
Weald: Paul Rayner 01732 364115 paul.rayner@freeuk.com

The separate Oppy and Topper regattas will be run in an identical manner. 3 competitors from each area will start in races one and two (back to back) followed by a helm change and the other 3 competitors will start in races 3 and 4 (back to back). In the event of an area not being able to field a full team of six, the race officers may allow one or more team members to race twice. There will be a short, simple triangular course and each race will be approximately 20 minutes. Competitors with their own boats will be able to race in all races – or 2 competitors may share ‘their’ boat.
